Tucked along the edge of Adventureland, The Tropical Hideaway at Disneyland feels like stumbling into a secret island paradise hidden in plain sight. What was once the Old Aladdin’s Oasis Hideaway underwent a drastic conversion in 2018.
The exterior of the Enchanted Tiki Room is a mix of Polynesian, Southeast Asian, and South American influences blended into a lush landscape which includes pathways lined with custom detailed bamboo railings, tiki-style lanterns, props, including Rosita the Bird, a design that has become a landmark of the area.
The walkway railings, starting at the back entrance and running the entire area of the Tropical Hideaway Paradise, while a time-consuming project, were well-worth the effort. By creating a more realistic look and feel to the area, visitors are visually transported right to a lush tropical paradise.
Molds of real bamboo were made to create the authentic texture and look of each individual railing.
Code-regulated steel pipe is covered with FRP to make these railings not only authentic, but also safe for children and adults alike.
Phase 1 of this project included the Tiki Room, the Bridge to The Tropical Hideaway, and a new ADA-compliant ramp.
Phase 2 included a new ramp to Tiki Hideaway, bridges crossing the river, and guardrails crossing the river.
